When it comes to teenage labels, we’re way past the days of jocks, nerds, and preps. Nowadays, the Internet has influenced teen stereotypes and now we have VSCO girls, E-boys, and interior design inspired “Wallpaper Girls.” So for those of us who are not fully up to date to every teenage trend on the internet, what’s a “Wallpaper Girl?”
According to TikToker Charlotte Samuels, “Usually these Wallpaper Girls live in either L.A. or New York. Growing up they probably had a bathroom with really expensive wallpaper. Decorating their daughter’s rooms, [parents] wanted it to be elegant, and timeless—something that they wouldn’t have to change… They probably paid a lot of money for the wallpaper and matching valances.”
She continues to explain that many of these girls wanted to “be like Blair and Serena [from Gossip Girl],” but ended up growing up to be “baddies.” So basically, Wallpaper Girls are edgy girls that take selfies in front of the wallpaper from their childhood. Pretty simple, right?
Here’s an example, Iris Apatow, daughter of Judd Apatow is considered to be a Wallpaper Girl. She often takes photos in her wallpapered bedroom with trendy outfits.
Wallpaper Girl style combines elements of grunge with modernity, vintage, and class. It’s basically bold on bold, and they’re not afraid to go there. Samuels explained that Wallpaper Girl style embraces the “old money look.”
She explained: “Old money whispers, new money screams.” The juxtaposition of the two is what really defines the Wallpaper Girl style.
